…It’s a logo!? …It’s an illustration!? …It’s a typeface!? No, it’s lettering. A trendy combination in visual communication that mix different graphic disciplines such us logo design, illustration and typography in order to create a powerful image.
This workshop is an introduction to the concept and the different techniques used to create a lettering. One of the latest trends in graphic design, used mainly as graphic resource for magazines and newspapers but also in advertising and poster art. We will focus in the creation of an “urban” inspired letter work.
Students and professionals into graphic design, illustration and typography that are interested in develop their style into a more experimental field, mixing different skills and creating new ways to express visual concepts.
3 days, two hours per day, where we will see and analyze different examples of already existing types and techniques of lettering (calligraphy, illustrated, handmade, casual & found, modular + recycling fonts) and its use, learning some basic concepts of typography and its construction in order to develop your own lettering using the technique(s) that fits you better. To attend this workshop, you will need to bring your own laptop with whatever design program you use and a playful and curious spirit. Other stuff like paper, pencils, pens, tape, digital cameras, etc. are very welcome and probably needed.
Pablo IA is a professional art director, graphic designer and artist based in Berlin. Since 1999 he has been involved in the creation of different art and design projects like the publishing house Belio and the experimental Belio Magazine. He also curated art and design shows for galleries and museums (Energías Renovadas, Monztaaah, X10: La Generación del Efecto 2000, etc.) and festivals like DeciBelio 2005 and 2006.
He founded Gee.Oh.Dee as a graphic design studio in collaboration with his partner. They worked for clients like ARCO Art Fair, Ericsson Innova, The Red Cross, Mercado de Fuencarral, Comunidad de Madrid, Conde Duque Museum, L’Escorxador Contemporary Art Center and music labels Delikatessen Records, Ant-Zen, Ad Noiseam, Low Impedance Recordings, etc. among many others.
