A Graphic Design Course
Teacher: Jorge Chamorro
11th Oct – 15th Dec,
Tuesdays & Thursdays
What is graphic design? Designing is basically thinking. Good design is the result of a profound intellectual process – an effective communicative solution is not just to make ‘pretty pictures’ – in reality it is much more complicated and much more exciting. The main objective of this course is therefore that students think. Designing is not just about aesthetic foundations or software or tools, it is about thinking, reflection and implementing visual communication projects with integrity, enthusiasm, with commitment for a job well-done and with self-driven criteria.
To learn graphic design you have to start designing. A large part of the course will comprise of implementing a variety of graphic design projects, and subsequently taking part in a collective group analysis of that work. Thus, the students will develop their creative and analytical skills. By the end of the course, the student will have a portfolio that will be more than proficient to submit as a résumé.
You will notice throughout the course how the history of and theory behind design deepens when considered alongside the histories of art and thought. We will talk about concept, composition, typography, identity, editorial design, signage.
We will conclude with a final project in which each student will design their own corporate identity.
For anyone who loves graphic design, communication and art. For those who want to develop as a designer and a creative, no matter the level. The more variety, the more we all will learn.
